Was a school teacher who died in the Southern Army. The location of his death and burial are unknown.

NARA Civil War Records have little information about Thomas James Spencer:

(1) Quarterly return of deceased soldiers,
(3) Registers of deceased soldiers. (Two of the registers are clearly bogus, mistakes made by the clerks who compiled them in the 1900s.)
His military records are in the name "T. J. Spencer"

Company A, Ward's Battalion, Artillery, Mississippi Volunteers. This company subsequently became "Company A, 14th Battalion Mississippi Light Artillery."
o Enlisted as "4 Sergeant" on Apr. 1, 1862, by Major Ward, for a period of "For the war."

Gravesite Details

The Spencer obelisk is a monument for eight people, two per side. Its top has broken off and was lying on the nearby grave of Mary Frances (Spencer) Drane on 10/29/2003. The monument needs cleaning.
