Graduated from Yale College in 1905. He worked in the banking business until retiring in 1925.
Served as treasurer of the Connecticut State Council of Defense and was in work for the Food Supply Commission of Connecticut during World War I.
Served as president of the Hartford Philharmonic Society, Inc. for a number of years and established a series of four free chamber music concerts to be given in Hartford each year, known as the Roberts Foundation for String Music. He wrotethe words for the song "Yale Forever."
