Husband of Delores Herrick Schell, to whom he was married for 49 years.

Father of John C. Schell, Mark Schell, Keith Schell, and Karyn Schell. Grandfather of Nicole, Anthony, Samantha, Kristen, Rachel, and Allison.

Son of John Schell and Gladys Thorn Schell. Brother of Kenneth Schell, Gretchen Pomfret, Karen Keene, Diane Johnson, and Duane Johnson.

Mr. Schell served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he was seriously injured in a non-combative accident, resulting in his medical discharge. He attended and graduated from the University of Buffalo and UCLA Law School. After graduation, he served as a prosecutor for the U.S. federal courts.

After practicing law in San Diego, California for 40 years, he retired as a senior member with the law firm of Glenn, Wright, Jacobs & Schell. After retirement, he volunteered his time and expertise in assisting the San Diego Unified School District.

The family requested that memorials be made to the American Lung Association.
