Rose attended the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. She taught in rural schools in Rockford, and at Vineyard Coulee and Wauzeka schools.
She married Louis Balk on June 11, 1946 in Prairie du Chien, WI. She was the elementary librarian at B. A. Kennedy School in Prairie du Chien from 1969 to 1988. Rose enjoyed reading and children. She used to tell her students that the best thing they could give their parents was a hug every day.
She was survived by 2 daughters; Rose Kuhlmann and Mary (Daniel) Scholtes, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, Erma Williamson and 2 brothers Kermeth and Kenneth Geisler.
Her husband, Louis Balk passed away on December 9, 1970.
