MR. GIBSON DENMARK WATERS, Sr
Mr. Gibson Denmark Waters, SR age 49, died 1:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the University Hospital in Augusta after a six month battle with brain cancer. He was a native of Bulloch County but had lived in Augusta for 19 years and owned and operated the Waters Grocery on Lumpkin Rd . He was a member of the Flemming Lions Club, the Augusta Merchants Association and a member of the First Primitive Baptist Church of Augusta.
Mr. Waters is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Hagins Waters of Augusta; two sons,Spec.4 Gibson D. Waters Jr. and William H. Waters both of Augusta, three sisters, Mrs. Sue Higgins of Atlanta, Mrs. Edna Stewart of Savannah and Mrs. Alcesta Mclnelly of Macky, Idaho; a brother, Lamar Waters of Memphis, Tenn.
Funeral services for Mr. Waters were held Monday afternoon at four-thirty from the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder F. Arthur Devane and Elder Howard Cox conducting the service. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Pratt Waters, Emory Waters, Edsel Waters, Tommy Simmons, Charles Harrison Denmark and Wister Denmark. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Flemming Lions Club.
The body remained in the chapel of the Smith-Tillman Mortuary in Statesboro until one hour prior to the service at which time it was carried to the church to lie in state
