Altha Iliene Drewett St. Andre

Mrs. Altha Iliene Drewett St. Andre, affectionately known by one and all as "Mommie", was born November 18, 1906 in Hargis, Grant Parish, Louisiana. She died on Monday, June 5, 2006 in Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, Natchitoches, Natchitoches Parish Louisiana. She was 99 years, 6 months and 18 days of age.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Westside Baptist Church, LA 1 Bypass, Natchitoches. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery on LA 6 East, Natchitoches, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Asa "Ace" and Marium Alice Jackson Teddlie and James Franklin and Martha Jane Evans Drewett of Grant and Winn Parishes, Louisiana; parents, Homer B. Drewett and Hettie Pauline Teddlie Drewett; two sisters, Vera Drewett Hosner and Bryda Lavae Drewett Wilkinson Rousseaux; three brothers, Asa Eugene Drewett, Thomas Thermon Drewett and Bertice Franklin Drewett; and son-in-law, Sidney "Sid" Williams Bright, Jr.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Ethelene St. Andre Bright Reichel and husband Jim of Natchitoches, Reverend Dr. Glynn Dwight St. Andre and wife Jeanne Gregg of Natchitoches and Mrs. Polly St. Andre Holly and husband Bill of Pineville, Louisiana, and one brother, J. B. Drewett and wife Lucy of North Little Rock, Arkansas.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren plus another on the way.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

In her early years she walked for miles to and from work until, at 50 years of age, she obtained a driver's license. As a single mother with three children to support, Iliene worked as a sales lady for Morgan & Lindsey, West Brothers, Todd's. Lewis' Ladies Wear and Sid's Flowers, all in Natchitoches, working full time until she was 80 years old. Then, she worked as a volunteer Pink Lady at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital retiring when she was 92 years of age.

A committed Christian, her son and two of her grandsons are Baptist ministers. She had been a member of Westside Baptist Church, Natchitoches, Louisiana since 1943 and was active in church until her health slowed her down several years ago. She taught Sunday School for 60 plus years and played guitar and fiddle in the Collard Green and Joyful Sounds at nursing homes and churches.

Christian missions were important to Iliene.

A donation in her name to the missions agency of your church would be a fitting memorial for a great Christian lady or to the charity of your choice.
