Mrs. Coleman was born on July 26, 1959 in El Reno, Oklahoma.
Laura worked for Ye Olde Towne Barbers & Stylist in Chestertown for 16 years and then opened Hair We Are with her partner, Henrietta Anthony. After a few years she sold her half of Hair We Are and went to work for Barbara Hyland and The Looking Glass, where she continued until her health forced her to retire. She was a member of The Stoney Creek Athletic Association, Lower Alsa Fire Company, the Frank Jarman American Legion Post Auxiliary and the Betterton United Methodist Church. Laura enjoyed playing pool, crafts, gardening, reading, riding her scooter, animals and pets and being with her friends and family.
Laura is survived by a son, R. Derek Coleman; her mother, Mary L. Wilkinson of Chestertown; two sisters, Audra Fister of Elkridge and Karen Stevens of Chestertown; a brother and sister-in-law, Andrew B. and Missy Wilkinson of Rock Hall; a grandfather, Richard "Schultz" Soltys of Betterton; a companion, Tracy Griffith of Reading, PA.; and all of her special nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be Monday evening, June 5, 2006 from 6-8 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown. Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Still Pond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern Shore Chapter 213 West Main St. Suite 205 Salisbury, MD 21801.
