U.S. Congressman. He was a farmer and merchant and served as a as a Lieutenant in the Pennsylvania Militia during the War of 1812. After the war, he was the Lancaster County Justice of the Peace, (1823-28). In 1831, he was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-second, Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1837. After leaving Congress, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate, (1840-42) and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
