Beulah Mary Carter, 93, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Palmyra and Wyaconda, Missouri, died at the St. Vencent's Nursing Home.
She was born to Roy and Mary Reynolds McCaw. On February 25, 1933, she married Ernest R. Carter in Lancaster, Missouri. He died March 2, 1986.
Mrs. Carter taught in rural schools in Ottumwa until her marriage. She was the supervisor at Community Action Agency in Wyaconda for 14 years befor retiring. She helped organize the first Senior Citizens Center in Clark County in 1969. She also worked with Clark County Senior Citizens to get an Oats Bus in 1972.
She was a 1931 graduate of Ottumwa High School. She was recognized as an outstanding 4-H leader for 10 years and was placed on Leader Honor Role at the University of Missouri College of Agriculture in Columbia, Missouri. She served on the boards of Wyaconda Senior Housing, Senior Citizens Nutritional Site in Kahoka, Clark County Family Services and Legal Services of Northeast Missouri. She also served on the CAA board for two years before moving to Palmyra. She was a member of Wyaconda Christian Church, Senior Citizens, Wyaconda Royal Neighbors of America, NCHA, and NO-E-MO Indians camping club in Kahoka.
Survivors include son, Merlyn of Surprise, Arizona; daughters, Joan Persifull of Louisiana, Missouri and Janet Bair of Quincy, Illinois; 12 grandchidren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sons, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral was held at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating.
