William D. Squires, 76, of Marshall, formerly of Slater, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at his home.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Rev. Mark Gooden will officiate. Pallbearers will be Billy Squires, Danny Squires, Michael Squires, Johnny Squires, Jeff Morris and Craig Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Young, Hall Smith, Bill Bodine, Jim Nisely, Jimmy Squires and John Imhoff. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Slater City Cemetery. Memorials are suggest to the Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice.Born Nov. 14, 1928, in Wakenda, he was the son of the late George W. and Juanita Stanley Squires. On Oct. 1, 1946, in Ottawa, Kan., he married Donna K. Fisher, who preceded him in death Jan. 4, 2003. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and owned and operated Squires Manufacturing Co. in Slater until his retirement in 1992. He had resided in Marshall since 1998, moving from rural Gilliam.Survivors include two sons, Tim Squires of Gilliam and Tom Squires of Marshall; one daughter, Mary Ann Lusebrink of Marshall; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Squires.
