Sculptor. He was born in Orio (Guipúzcoa, País Vasco). He was one of the pioneers of the abstract style in his sculptures. After the 1930s, he worked during almost 20 years in South America. When he returned to Spain, he made several religious figures such as "Los Apóstoles" and "La Piedad" for the Church of Arantzazu. In 1984 he was awarded with the Golden Medal of Fine Arts and in 1988, with the Príncipe de Asturias Award. Among his works "Odiseo," "Construcción Vacía," "Homenaje a Malevich" and "Conjunción Dinámica de Dos Pares de Elementos Curvos y Livianos." He died in San Sebastián, País Vasco. He donated his work to the people of Navarra, where he was buried along with his wife.
