This Unknown U.S. Soldier marker is located between Unknown in H-8705 and J.Q.A. Nutt / McNutt (Co D 63rd IND, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Div, 23rd Army Corp) in H-8703. I believe I have solved this Unknown Wm B---

Found in Indiana Adjutant General Report:
Sixty-third Indiana, Company F:
William Boulds, mustered in at Indianapolis, Aug 30 '62. Killed at Burnt Hickory, June 16, '64

Listed in Roll of Honor, Vol. XXIII, page 59, as B----, W, Co B 68th Indiana. Originally buried on Pine Mountain battlefield.

Burial Register has a page of last names beginning with letter B. Partial Record: Last initial: "B." First initial: "W." (B. W. crossed out), 68th Ind Co B, H (344) 8704. Orig Bur Pine Mt. According to 68th Indiana regimental history on CWSS, 68th Ind was not involved in battles near Kennesaw Mt.; Garrison duty at Chattanooga April to September, 1864. 68th IND should be 63rd IND.

Originally buried in a group of 9 graves in a hospital graveyard 3.5 miles west of Pine Mt. - David M. Long, J.M. Brown, J.Q.A. McNutt, Wm Boulds, Unknown, Isaac Hicks, Unknown Co B 100 OVI, Geo. W. Hempstead, Unknown.

The names of Long, Brown, McNutt, and Boulds were severely illegible. In addition, Brown, McNutt, and Boulds were marked as 68th Indiana and therefore, when re-interred in MNC, could not be reconciled with state records. Their headstones read Brin, Nutt, and Unknown U.S. Soldier.

Col. Stiles to Col. Cameron: "On the 10th (June) moved out on the Acworth road to the right and front; camped in line of battle on the right of Butterfield's division, of the Twentieth Corps. Here I remained until the 15th, when I formed line of battle and advanced toward the enemy. Our line of battle here was in sight of Lost Mountain. In the afternoon of the 16th (June) advanced upon the enemy, with the Twenty-fourth Kentucky on my right, in the direction of a strong line of works held by the enemy, and into which their skirmishers were driven. In this advance I lost 5 enlisted men killed, 11 wounded." OR Series 1 - Volume 38 (Part II), page 725. 5 KIA verified in the Indiana Adjutant General Report: Jeremiah M. Brin/Brown (H8702), John Q A Nutt/McNutt (H8703), William Boulds (H8704), James Penner (H8748), John P. Jack (H8507).

Some Boulds family history posted on John Boulds memorial in Findagrave also supports this identity. His mother, Mary C. Walker, is buried in Marion Co, Indiana. Helen Boulds, his grand-niece, married John B. Tipton, who received a Silver Star medal in World War I and also served during World War II. His burial is in Colorado; did not find Helen, his first wife who died in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.
