PORTLAND, Ore. Lois Alta Hufford, 82, a longtime Lewiston homemaker, died of cancer Wednesday at Care Center East here.

She moved to Lewiston around 1944 with her husband, Albert Hufford. After his death in August 1985, she moved to Oregon and lived at Lake Oswego until 1988. She live at the Glendovere Retirement Home until January and then moved to Care Center East.

She was born Oct. 23, 1909, at LaGrande, Ore., to George and Hattie Maude Palmer James.

After her marriage to Albert Hufford in 1924 at LaGrande, they lived in Milton-Freewater, Ore., before moving to Idaho.

At Lewiston, she was a member of the First Assembly of God and a member of the ladies club at the church. She enjoyed needlework, especially making afghans and doilies. She also liked to cook and play the organ.

Survivors include two daughters, Geneva Crow of Portland and Naomi Walters of Lewiston; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Lester and Ronald, died previously.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Funeral Home at Lewiston. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Noble of Valley Christian Center officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be contributions to Valley Christian Center at Lewiston.
