DEATH OF MINER TERMED NATURAL
Autopsy Discloses Francois Caroff, Dunlo, Suffered Heart Attack
A heart attack, believed to have been superinduced by over-exertion, was pronounced the cause of death yesterday of Francis Caroff, 61 year old Dunlo miner, following an autopsy at Memorial Hospital. Caroff was found dead early yesterday morning near a heading in the Dunlo mine of the Mountain Coal Company where he has been employed for nearly 20 years. Investigating the fatality today is Miner Inspector R.D. Josephs, taking the place of Inspector S.J. Craighead, recently resigned. Coroner Cyrus W. Davis, who was granted permission yesterday to have the autopsy performed, has stated an inquest pends the outcome of Mr. Joseph's investigation.
Dr. H.G. Difenderfer of Beaverdale, summoned upon the finding of Caroff's body, found no external injuries on the body.
Caroff's son, who had been working with his father, stated a car the elder Caroff was pushing into a room got away. In an attempt to stop the empty car, the elder man knocked down a mine prop. After getting the car under control, Caroff returned to pick up the prop and fell dead. Surviving the deceased are his widow, Mrs. Marie (Corre) Caroff, and these children: Mrs. Elizabeth Fox, James J. Caroff and Mrs. Katherine Serre, all of Dunlo, Henry, Violet, Kenneth, Marie, Florence, and Joan Caroff all at home. Brothers and a sister also surviving are Mrs. Mary Peron of Johnstown, John Caroff of Beaverdale and Peter Caroff, adress unknown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 o'clock Thursday morning in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Dunlo. Interment in the church cemetery will be directed by R. E. Donnelly, Beaverdale mortician.
