I think Trixie was part poodle and part wire-haired fox terrier. She was grumpy but very, very smart with tons of personality! I swear that dog had a huge vocabulary. We had to spell around her or she'd figure out what was going on ... little rascal. :) C-h-e-e-s-e was her favorite word. Trixie was our first dog together as husband and wife. I still remember visiting the inHumane Society, and amoungst all the dogs available she stood out from the crowd. We saved her from the gas chamber but she saved us from loneliness. She was really special.

While still living in town I bred her one time with a pure breed miniature schnauzer named Hannibal, and she had four of the most adorable puppies. Trixie loved being a Mama Dog. I was the only one that could go near her nest without getting a sharp reprimand. We even kept one puppy, Ruthie, and the rest went to loving homes.

After living with us for nearly all her life, Trixie died at the ripe old age of 17 years and about 2 months. Her health was always exceptional but she became deeply depressed when she lost her puppy Ruthie the previous February. Ruthie was the life of the party at our house. I guess Trixie just gave up on life or she just got tired of living. She did develop severe arthritis so going up and down the stairs was becoming too painful. Now both are resting with their favorite toys under an old oak tree on our property, next door to the cemetery. We miss them all often.
