On Monday, the Lord called from Labor to rest Rev. Dr. J. Aaron Hawkins Sr. He was born to the late Rose Etta Hawkins.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He attended Oklahoma School of Religion, College of the Ozarks, Liberty Home Bible Institute, Arkansas Baptist College, Moody Bible College and holds a doctor of letter degree from St. Stephen's Educational Bible College.
He taught at State Home and Foreign Missions and State Congress of Christian Education of the Regular Arkansas Baptist Convention Inc. for 20 plus years.
He confessed a hope in Christ at the tender age of 12 at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He has served the Lord since he was licensed to preach by Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was called ad ordained to preach the Gospel at his first church, Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksville, Arkansas. After serving at Mount Calvary for several years, the Lord sent the Shepherd to Mount Carmel in Plumerville, Arkansas to continue the work of the Lord. After serving souls and preaching the uncompromising Gospel at Mount Carmel, the Shepherd was called to look over and guide the flock at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas. During his tenure, Rev. Hawkins was very active in his community, district, state and national organizations by serving as president of the Antioch District Congress for Christian Education, first vice president of Foreign Missions and Education for the Regular Arkansas Baptist Convention Inc. He was appointed by the governor and actively serving as a member of the Arkansas Board Corrections and Community Punishment. He founded the Northwest Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Planning Committee.
He leaves in mourning a lovely wife, Edith Hawkins. Through his union to Sue Hawkins, five children were born, Marion Renee Mines, Susan Michele Whitney (Kevin ), Jacqueline Annette Hawkins, Jackson Aaron Jr. (Delomica ), and Antonio Amos (Debbie), all of Baltimore, Maryland. Through his union to Edith, he acquired two daughters, Traci Lynn Morgan of Little Rock, Arkansas and Terri Kimberly Doss (Richard) of Midlothian, Texas; and a son, Travis Shawn Morgan of Brooklyn, New York; one sister, Helen Powell of Chicago, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Bryon and Chantel Mines, Jaclyn and Kevin Jr. Whitney; Julia, Jordan, Antoine ad Aaron Hawkins, Quinton Smith, Justin Hawkins, Kamron and Kristopher Phillips and Riana Kathleen Morgan; one great-granddaughter, Mykayla and one great-grandson, Kalen Phillips; and a host of relatives and friends.
There are so many things in life we will never understand. So we must trust in God's judgment and accept His leading hand. We know that all who know God's blessing will rest in His care, and have safe passage on the wings of faith and prayer.
