Second wife of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. She was an intellectual, a horsewoman, a lyric vocalist, and met Conan Doyle on March 15, 1897, and though he was then married to Louise Hawkins they both fell in love. However they agreed to maintain a platonic romance and not to do anything that could affect Louise, who was ill with tuberculosis. Louise died in July 1906, and Jean and Arthur Conan Doyle married 14 months later, in September 1907. The couple had three children. The marriage was a happy one and lasted until Conan Doyle's death in 1930. Jean Conan Doyle died 10 years later and is interred with her husband.
