Son of Thomas Bennet Briggs and Amanda Elizabeth Gallaher. Husband of Cora Belle Shadle.

Obituary:
Ira E. Briggs, 1623 Fifth avenue, Altoona, a retired engineer of the Pennsylvania railroad, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto Schultz, 906 Twenty-ninth street, Altoona, Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 1941, at 3 o'clock, of a heart ailment from which he had suffered for some time. Born June 24, 1874, at Burnt Cabins, he was the son of Thomas M. and Amanda (Gallagher) Briggs, but had resided in Altoona for the past 40 years. Mr. Briggs retired from the railroad service in 1938 after 40 years employment. His wife, Mrs. Cora Bell (Shadle) Briggs, died April 29, 1926. Members of the family included following sons and daughters, Alton B. Briggs, Officer Bert Briggs of the city police department and Mrs. Otto Schultz, all of Altoona; seven grandchildren and one brother, Jesse Briggs, Orbisonia. Mr. Briggs was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after noon Wednesday.

BRIGGS - Funeral services for Ira E. Briggs of 1623 Fifth avenue will be held at the Laughlin funeral home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. W.W. Breckbill. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after noon Wednesday.
