Police LT. Russell Baldwin was killed by an armed robbery suspect on August 27th, 1974. He sacrificed his life for the city of Crawfordsville. Russ was born to Harvey and Elsie Ewbank Baldwin in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He married Mary Lou McMurray, she survives as well as their son Eugene "Po" Baldwin and their foster daughter Cheryl. His parents preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brothers Harold (Mary) of Memphis, Tennessee; John (Sally) of Greencastle, Indiana; Kenneth (Marge) of Orrville, Ohio; Dale (Cheryl) Baldwin of Potomac, Illinois and two sisters Martha (Warren) Carrell of Browns Valley, Indiana and Faye (Don) Swisher of Crawfordsville. Also many nieces and nephews.
Russ was an avid sports fan and supported many teams. He was also a Army veteran.
