The brother of Dottie Mann of Ossian, D. Dwight "Tilly" Holmes, 88, of Warren, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, at United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren.
Mr. Holmes was a registered watchmaker and he owned and operated a jewelry store in Warren for 35 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran with service during World War II. Also, he was a 39-year member of the Warren Volunteer Fire Department, and a 50-year member of Warren United Methodist Church.
Born on April 19, 1918, in Warren, he was a son of Chester and Orpha (Smith) Holmes. His marriage on Oct. 27, 1940, in Warren was to Helen P. (Rudicel) Holmes, who survives.
Other survivors, in addition to the sister in Ossian, include a son, John Holmes of Birchrunville, Pa., another sister, Emma Williams of Warren; a brother, Maurice Holmes of Warren; and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Memorial Home with Rev. Howard Cress and Rev. John Wallace officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes - H. Brown & Son Chapel, Warren. There also is calling from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the United Methodist home. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Warren.
