Delzon C. Allen enlisted as a Private in Company E of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on June 20, 1861, for 3 years of service, at age 19. He was reported as missing in action at Malvern Hill, Virginia. He was later discharged for disability at Detroit, Michigan, on January 24, 1863. He then enlisted in Company M of the Eleventh Michigan Cavalry on December 24, 1863, and was transferred into Company C of the Eighth Michigan Cavalry on July 20, 1865, at Pulaski, Tennessee. Delzon was discharged from the service on October 6, 1865, at Detroit, Michigan.
