Julius worked a machinist. He was a nice and gentle man. He arrived in New York City on May 16, 1871 when he was 19 years old on the ship The City of Baltimore. He married Maria "Mary" Wagner on April 16 1876. They were the parents of nine children: Julius Robert, William Franklin, Alexander Emil, Edward, Charles, Richard, Caroline , Anna and Anton. His wife Maria died just two years later. The younger female children eventually were sent to orphanage in Brooklyn when the neighbors called the social workers because the boys were trying to care for the girls. The children lost contact until Caroline happened to board a bus and recognized her brother who was the driver. The children were all re-united.
