                           Ruth Conkey Clark Buried at Sherwood

Ruth Frances (Conkey) Clark was born on November 9, 1891 at Austin, Ruth Frances (Conkey) ClarkMower County, Minnesota, where she lived until 1901, when she moved with her parents to Hayfield, Dodge County, Minnesota. Her parents were Pliny Amos Conkey and Lillie Frances (Churchill) Conkey. The family later moved to a farm northwest of Sherwood, Renville County, North Dakota.

She received her grade school training at Austin, Minnesota and at Sherwood; taking advanced training at Minot State Teachers College. She taught school for seven years in Renville County.

She was united in marriage on November 9, 1918 to Albion Allen Clark, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1934. To this union eight children were born: Aden Amos Clark of Mohall, North Dakota; Francis Albion Clark of Coachella, California; Mrs. Beryl Lillian (Clark) Britsch of Lakota, North Dakota; Mrs. Avis Ruth (Clark) Banek of Ault Colorado; Merlyn Alice Clark of Coachella, California; Mrs. Beverly Lorraine (Clark) Carter of Hennepin, Oklahoma; Darwin Earl Clark of Sherwood and Geraldine May Clark who died in infancy.

She had been ailing for quite some time. She was admitted to Trinity Hospital in Minot on July 26, 1948 and underwent an operation. He condition improved for a while, but for the last several months, she had been failing steadily. Death came at 11:20 a.m. on July 16, 1949 at her home in Sherwood and the cause was cancer.

She is survived by three sons and four daughters; as well as a brother, Ben Conkey of Calipatria, California and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 20, at 2: p.m. at the Methodist Church in Sherwood. Reverand Howard Rice officiated at the final rites.

Pallbearers were: C.F. Heller, Charles Mattern, Bennie Hurdelbrink, Edwin Heller, Leonard Harris and R.G. Daeley. Interment was in Sherwood Union Cemetery with Dahle Funeral Home in charge.
