- "The Science of Government Founded on Natural Law", 1841 (Publisher: Dean & Trevett, New York) This work is believed by many to have been the direct model for the 1848 "Communist Manifesto" of Karl Marx & Frederick Engels. Although he wrote a few other works, he is remembered today for this one. A popular story is that he and Horace Greeley were members of a secret society named "Illuminati".
