Lewis Jr. was the eldest son of Lewis & Nancy Ann (Reed) Dulin who apparently brought Lewis Jr. and his siblings to Ohio from Fauquier County, VA. The earliest mention of this family in Ohio is about 1810 in the Ross County town of Chillicothe. In about 1819, Lewis Jr. was married to Clemence Spenny and Lewis and (probably) his new wife can be found on the 1820 Federal Census for Madison Township, Perry County, OH. On the 1830 Census, Lewis Jr. appears erroneously as "Lewis Doolin" living in Norwich Township, Franklin County, OH, where he was to spend the rest of his life. "Lewis Dulin" can also be found on the 1840 and 1850 censuses for Norwich Township, Franklin County, OH. Lewis Jr. & Clemence reportedly parented at least 13 children between the years of 1820 & 1846: Harriett Dulin, Louisa M. Dulin, Edwin (or Edward) R. Dulin, George S. Dulin, Atwell Dulin, Samaritan A. Dulin, Matilda Jane Dulin, Warren A. Dulin, Smith M. Dulin, Frances C. Dulin, Jeremiah Dulin, Nancy J. Dulin, & William Dulin. Three of Lewis & Clemence's sons saw military service during the Civil War: Atwell, Samaritan, & Smith.

Date of death now mostly unreadable. The Franklin County Gravestone Photos reading of "Feb. 4, 1851" has been used here for Lewis' date of death. His date of birth has been calculated using the very legible "Aged 59 Y 5M 5D" inscribed on his tombstone.
