FUNERAL SERVICE FOR MRS. MATTIE COPELAND
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie E. Copeland were held Tuesday, April 23,1963, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Theo Benson, pastor, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. C.H. Warner of the Carter Avenue Methodist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Copeland died Friday, April 19, 1963 at her home in Marietta at the age of 81. Death came as the result of severe burns suffered when her clothing became accidentally ignited from a bathroom heater. A verdict was reached at the inquest of death by suffocation and burns accidentally received.

Mrs. Copeland was born March 20, 1882 in Cooke County, Texas. She was married to George Andrew Copeland on September 7, 1899, at Dexter, Cooke County, Texas. She, with her family, moved to Love County in December, 1911 and had resided in this area since that time. Mr. Copeland preceded her in death on March 30, 1950. Mrs. Copeland had been a member of the Methodist Church since early childhood and remained active in the work of her church as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include; five daughters, Mrs. E.M. (Vera) Parker of Marietta, Mrs. Ovaline Price of Gainesville, Texas, Mrs. Curtis (Cecile) Hodgson of Arkansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Gordon (Jewel) Cox of Hawthorne, California, and Mrs. Glenn( Allie) Read of Ardmore; six sons, James Royce Copeland of Salem, Oregon, Charles Everett Copeland of Ontario, Califonrnia, Walter Lee Copeland of Palmdale, California, Coy Copeland of Marietta and George Elton "Bud"Copeland of Ardmore; one brother, Jim McDaniel of Gainesville, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, Oklahoma under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Maurice Hodgson, Kenneth Parker, Joe Lesley Copeland, Gene Read, Bill Read and Keith Read.
