Newspaper Obituary December 7, 1971

Mrs. Florence I Starling, 94, of 615 N. 10th St. died at 9:15 am Sunday in a Temple hospital after an illness of one week. Funeral will be at 4 pm Monday at Harper Talasek Funeral Home, The Rev Clyde Nichols officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers cemetery.
The daughter of L. B. and Palestine Bryant, Bell County pioneers, she was born in Rogers September 10, 1877. Mrs. Starling was a member of the first graduating class of Sam Houston State College. She taught school in the Rogers area before her marriage and moved to Temple in 1934. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Temple.
Surviving are three sons, J. H. Starling Jr. of Temple, W. E. Starling of Dallas and L. B. Starling of Santa Paula, California; three daughters, Mrs. T. F. Gilleland of Waco, Mrs. F. M. Autry of Dallas and Mrs. W. O. Pickard of Temple; three brothers H. H. Bryant of Temple, Ewin C. Bryant of Lorenzo and Harmon Bryant of Houston; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Her husband and a son died previously.
Pallbearers will be Henry Bryant, Billy James Townsend, J. C. Starling, Ray Penny, Larry Springer and Andy Calvin Mayes. (note omission in survivoring list--also survived by sister, Mrs. Chattie Lively of Cameron).
