Keith Bender Jr., 35, died at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Mr. Bender was a former medic for the Army and a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Keith LeVell Bender Jr. was the oldest of three boys. He graduated from Osborn High School in Detroit and enlisted in the Army in 1990. He served as a medic in the first Gulf War and received four Good Conduct medals and a Bronze Star. Bender retired from the service because of heart troubles and worked as a recruiter in the years afterward. In 2000, he became an ordained minister and was a member of Greater New Hope Church in New Haven. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed basketball. Keith leaves behind his mother, brother, wife, three step-children and countless loved ones who said they'll miss the man they adored for his honesty, kindness and humor.
