Vernie James Airington was born 2/2/1928 in Alex, OK to J.D. & Ada Airington. He passed away on 3/26/2006 in OKC. At the age of 17, Vernie joined the Army at the end of WWII. Fiftyeight years ago he married Hazel Marie Bednar. After the military, he purchased a dump truck which started his trucking career that lasted a span of 60 years. He worked many years at Hahn Truck Line and finished his career at FreightLiner. He influenced many lives in El Reno through coaching baseball. His overall record was 160 wins/7 losses. Throughout his life his family was his priority. He made it a point to attend all of his children and grandchildren's musical and sporting events. He enjoyed going to auctions with his family and was an avid dealer in other people's lost treasures (ie: junk). All who knew Papa loved him, he will be deeply missed. Vernie is preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Ada Airington, his brother Bud Airington, his sister Addie Graves, and son Jimmy Randel Airington. He is survived by his wife Hazel Airington, son David Airington & wife Debbie of El Reno, daughter Reda Mewhorter & husband Ray of Del City, son Ancel Airington & wife Linda of Edmond, brother Stanley Airington & wife Delores of Norman, sister Lucille Persley of Chickasha, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the First Christian Church of El Reno, 400 S. Barker, El Reno, OK 73036. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 29th at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel, 930 S. Broadway, Edmond, with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery in OKC.
