Tommie Rea Alexander died after an extended illness Feb. 12, 2007, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Born in Lamar County, Ala., she is the daughter of the late Thomas and Effie Blaylock and wife of the late John Alexander. Tommie and John were married on April 6, 1950, in Columbus, Miss. As an Air Force spouse, she traveled with her husband extensively, settling in their last place of assignment, Fort Walton Beach, in 1966. She retired from the Okaloosa County School District Food Service at Choctawhatchee High School in 1988.

She is survived by her three children and their families, Cathy (Don) Beaty of Shalimar, Fla., Wayne (Peggy) Alexander, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and Lisa (Scott) Martin of Burke, Va.; six grandchildren, Kara (Russ) Lindsey of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jessica Driver of Fort Walton Beach, John Alexander of Orlando, Fla., Brett Driver of Fort Walton Beach, Daniel Martin and Sara Martin both of Burke, Va.; one great-grandchild Addyson Lindsey of Oklahoma City ; one sister, Betty Scott of Columbus, Miss.; brother-in-law, Tom (Dorothy) Alexander of Fort Walton Beach; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Loudermilk of Mount Airy, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friends, Bill and Nita Roberts of Fort Walton Beach. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home Chapel, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, with the Revs. Chuck Poppell and Richard Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.


The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Heart Association, 222 N.E. Hospital Drive, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548; or to the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Tommie Alexander.
