Houston – Rex Lee Brassfield, 72, died November 22, 2000 of heart failure at his residence in Houston. Services were held Thursday, November 23, 2000 at Church of the Lord Jesus Christ with Bro. Tommy Byars and Bro. Elkin Heair officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born December 22, 1927, Mr. Brassfield was the son of the late Elliot "LT" and Ida Blansett Brassfield. He was a self-employed logger and a member of Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Clemons Brassfield; two children, Gary and Janice Brassfield; two brothers, Jim and Bud Brassfield; three grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters, Virginia Gregory of Pontotoc, Wanda Gregory of Woodland, Carolyn Gann and husband, Ray, of Houston, Jo Cross and husband, Dean, of Houlka, Katherine Hughes and husband, Tom, of Woodland; five sons, Stevie Brassfield and wife, Ruby, of Houston, Lucky Brassfield and wife, Gerilidine, of Fulton, John Brassfield and wife, Karen, of Houston, Ricky Brassfield and wife, Betty Ann, of Montpelier, David Brassfield and wife, Connie, of Montpelier; one brother, Claude Brassfield of Houston; three sisters, Inez Dotson of Houston, Mae Gann of Houston and honorary mother and sister Lizzie Buford of Houston; 29 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren.
Mr. Brassfield's grandsons served as pallbearers.
