Inscription

"Beneath this Tomb, rest the Remains of Henry Peter Grant Hewitt. son of James and Clarisa Hewitt; who departed this life Dec. 8th 1830 aged 3 yrs and 16 days."

"I saw thee sick, I saw the tear, of anguish in thine eye; I saw the heavy sweat of death, upon thy temple lie. I saw thee when the fever flush, upon thy soft cheek burned; I saw that little tortured frame, as o'er and o'er it turned. I saw thee when those eyes grew dim, and all their lustre fled; I saw thee when that cheek was pale, Henry, I saw thee dead. I saw them when they wrap'd the shroud around thy tender form; I saw thee when they laid thee low within thy cold damp home. I heard the clod as fast it fell, to hide thee from my sight; I heard it and my fainting soul had well nigh ta'en its flight. Farewell my son, my much loved boy. I weep yet know not why; I know thy home thy happy home, is with thy God on high. I know that little prattling tongue is joined with angels now; I know a fadeless crown of life, adorns thy infant brow. And oh may that indulgent God, who heeds the raven's cry; prepare me for that solemn hour, when I myself must die. May angels quit their blest abode, to close my dying eyes; and waft my soul to meet and join, my Henry in the skies."
