Civil War Notable Daniel Webster Flagler from New York, attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating 5th in his June 1861 class. Flagler was chief of ordnance at Gettysburg for the Army of the Potomac. After the Civil War, Flagler wrote "A History of the Rock Island Arsenal" under the direction of Gen. Stephen Vincent Benet.
