Former Bricevillian dies at 75
A native of Briceville who was a coal miner more than 40 years, Gaynes Pryor Burton, 75, of LaFollette Rt. 1, died Friday night at LaFollette Community Hosptial after a long illness.
Burton was born in the Beech Grove area and left Briceville 37 years ago to live in Moreley and then LaFollette. He retired from New Jellico Coal Co. in the late 50s. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Morely, Burton was a member of United Mine Workers of America and he enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Faye Snow Burton; two sons, Walter Burton of Dayton, Ohio and David Burton of Morley; six daughters, Mrs. Meva Griffith of Dayton, Mrs. Betty Simpson of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Kathleen Partin of Fairborn, Ohio, Mrs. Nina Lawson of Fairview, Ky., Mrs. Sandra Teague of Eagan and Mrs. Diane Brooks of Germantown, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Martin Funeral Home in LaFollette with the Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Thincastle Cemetery.
