One cold December morning I came home from working third shift and heard a mournful cry coming from under the back deck. After calling "kitty-kitty" out came a tiny, grey kitten. He looked so pitiful and sounded so mournful I had to bring him in the house to eat. My husband said, "No more cats! He has to go!", so before I went to bed I put him back out into the harsh, cold day. Well, when I got up later that day, guess who had not only moved in but also had a name! Bill.

While inside, Bill liked to sit on my shoulder. When he was outside Bill would walk each step with my husband as he mowed the lawn. Bill had the loudest, most pitiful sounding meow, and always looked as if he had a scowl on his face, but in fact he was a good natured, friendly cat. He did not like other cats to come into his yard though, and would run them off in short order. Bill spent his summers outside, coming in only to eat and say hello or to use the littler box. I guess he didn't like digging in the dirt. Come winter Bill would move in the house and stay until spring.

One January I was in the hospital for six days having heart surgery, and my husband said Bill sat and watched out the window and would rarely eat.
Although Bill had been neutered the neighbors claimed he was the father of their cat's kittens. We laugh when we see Bill's "wife" roaming our yard now. Without Bill here to put the go on her she can come and go as she pleases.
Bill didn't have a long life but he was happy and he was very loved.
