Janet Mary Susco, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on March 23, 2005 at the age of 81. Born September 18, 1923 in Bayard, OH to Mary E. and Orbie R. Shively, Janet was widowed in 1945 after losing her first husband, First Lt. Lemoine W. Noling in the final days of WWII. She was married to Dante Victor Susco in 1947 who preceded her in death after 53 years of loving marriage. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Dolores Jeanne Susco; and grandson, Aryeh "Cody" Sherr.
She is survived by children, a daughter in Santa Fe, Kristine I. Susco of Albuquerque, and a son and his wife in California. In addition, Janet is survived by her brother, Roger Shively and his family; seven grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Janet was a life-long lover of the written word and history and applied this passion in her religious and civic activities and career. After graduating from Minerva H.S. as Valedictorian in 1941, Janet attended Mount Union College in Alliance, OH, where she received her B.A. and met her future husband Dante. Janet and Dante settled in Los Alamos, NM in 1950, where for the next 50 years Janet provided a loving home for her husband and children. She was active in the Valle Grande Chapter of the DAR, serving as both Regent and historian, worked as a museum guide and librarian at LANL and served as a docent for the Los Alamos Historical Society. A charter member of First United Methodist Church of Los Alamos, she taught Sunday School and was active and an officer in AAUW, CWU, and UMW.
In 2000, she moved to Albuquerque, resided at Sandia Springs and became a member of St. Paul's UMC. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday March 30, 2005, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, Albuquerque with Dr. Roy Elmore officiating. Interment will follow a graveside ceremony at 2:00 p.m. at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM.
