SPRINGFIELD - The graveside funeral will be held March 16 for Opal Brewer of Springfield, who died March 10 of cancer. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Ebert and Mary Kester Lane. She married Albert Brewer on Oct. 26, 1937, in Turner, S.D. He died Aug. 9, 1987.

Brewer worked at Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Sioux Falls. After moving to Springfield in 1959, she worked as a bookbinder at Industrial Publishing in Eugene for 25 years.

She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening and her family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Arlin, Bart, Daniel and Timothy, all of Springfield; a daughter, Colleen Tanner of Springfield; two sisters, Mary Cannedy of Dayton and Millie Strommer of Baker City; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. A son, Jim, granddaughter, Chelsea, and grandson, Aaron, died previously.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene. Thursday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.
