BOSTIC, NC - MYRA ACKMAN, 83, of 2855 Bostic to Sunshine Hwy died January 18th, 2004 at the Henderson Nursing Care Center, Forest City, NC after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was formerly a resident of Indiana, Orlando, FL and Titusville, FL before moving to Rutherford Co, NC in 1988. She was born in Democrat, Letcher Co, Kentucky on January 9, 1921, daughter of John Anderson "Andy" and Anna Bell "Annie" Rector COOK.

Myra is predeceased by her parents, six brothers, one sister Roenia Gladys (Jerome) Diddle of Orlando, FL, and two children, an infant son Billie J. Morgan and a daughter Delma Joan Morgan (Donald B.) Jordan of Borden, IN, and two husbands Mr. Delmer Morgan and Mr. Paul Emmett Ricketts, Sr.

She was of the Baptist faith and regularly attended Liberty Baptist Church in North Carolina. Myra was a very talented seamstress, gardner, cook and artist.

Myra appreciated the arts and music. Her favorites were classical, easy listening and polka but her favorite tune was Last Date by Floyd Cramer. That one always made her tear up and now it does that to me too.

She is survived by her third husband of 36 years Donald Willard Ackman; brother Lloyd G. Cook of Hernando, FL; son Paul E. (Brenda) Ricketts of Charlotte, NC; daughter Diane (William R.) Burke of Versailles, KY (now Alachua, FL); nephews Joseph and Timothy Diddle of Orlando, FL, Joseph, Thomas, and Rob Jordan of IN; step-daughter Pamela Ackman (Steven R.) Hudson of Patterson, GA; grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends.

Memorialization was by cremation. Her husband permitted no obituary nor a memorial service.

She is greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral home assisting the family was Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home, Inc., 359 East Church Street, Bostic, NC.

---NOTE: This summer (2009) Mom's ashes will be placed in the stream that fed her grandfather's mill pond at his gristmill. The time she spent there was some of the happiest memories she had. The mill was in Whitesburg, KY, but was torn down and an elementary school was built on the site.

I have arranged to donate to the Harlan County Museum, photos of my Grandparents and other photo's of the area, along with a Litho of the gristmill that Mom painted from memory, since the painting she gave to the Chamber of Commerce has disappeared.
