Dr. Slocum Dies; Clinic Co-Founder
Dr. Millard M. Slocum, 87, Barneveld, died at his home yesterday after a long illness. He was long – time head of the medical staff in St. Joseph's Hospital, Far Rockaway, L.I., and co-founder of the Slocum-Dickson Medical Group in Utica.
Son of Volney M and Sarah Jane Slocum, he was born in Cold Brook, Nov. 2, 1871. An 1895 graduate of Long Island College Hospital, he established his practice in Barneveld the same year. In 1900 he moved to Far Rockaway returning to Barneveld in 1924.
He married Harriet Schermerhore on June 5, 1895, in Poland, N.Y. She died March 4, 1921. On Dec. 6, 1922, he married Mary Elise Harst in Far Rockaway.
Dr. Slocum founded the medical group with Dr. W. B. Dickson and Dr. C. S. Dickson in December, 1938. He was a member of the medical staffs of the Utica Dispensary, Utica General Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude S. Collins, Barneveld; three grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Another daughter, Miss Dorothy Sarah Slocum, died May 4, 1934.
The funeral will be at 2 Thursday at Dr. Slocum's home. Burial will be in the family plot.
