J. A. McFarland, 89, died Thursday morning in a DeQueen, Ark., hospital.
Services were at 10:00 a. m. Saturday in the Norwood-Welch Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Odell Stuart and Rev. Dane Freeman officiating. Burial was in Denison Cemetery with graveside services under the direction of the Valliant Masonic Lodge.
McFarland was born Oct. 26, 1880, in Lillard, Texas. He moved to McCurtain County 70 years ago from Texas. He was a merchant for 51 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and a Mason for more than 50 years. He held the 32nd Degree in Masonry. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, John Willis McFarland of Tulsa; two daughters, Mrs. Marcella Lechliter and Mrs. Evelyn Ramsey, both of Millerton; a grandson, Johnny McFarland of Millerton; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Hay of Calif., and Mrs. Eddie Thigby of Ryan; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
