Gertrude Mae "Gertie" Harmon Banta, 89, of 950 Cross Ave., died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

She was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Trimble County, the daughter of William Henderson Harmon and Rilla Louise Stockdale. She lived most of her life in Switzerland County, but spent her last seven years in Madison. She was a member of Braytown Christian Church and assisted in the running of the family farm.

Survivors include three daughters, Velma Joe McKay of Henryville, Phyllis Hensley of Deputy and Mary Charlotte May of Hanover; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Graham E. Banta, March 9, 1996; four brothers, James Earl Harmon, Chester, Forrest and Harold Harmon; five sisters, Mabel Reed, Mary Cummins, Myrtle Alanta "Tootsie" Harmon, Dorothy C. Harmon and Josephine Lena Harmon; and one grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay, with burial in Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
