Born into a family of German immigrants, she was the second oldest child. Her older sister Emma died when she was 10, in 1920. Adella went to work at Pratt & Whitney until her youngest sister Velma (my grandmother) contracted Polio, and her mother died of a heart attack in 1932. She dedicated her life to helping her father and family run the farm.
In 1956 her father died, but she still lived in the farm house until 1992, when she suffered from Alzheimers. She was diagnosed in 1990 but was able to live at home until it became detrimental to her health.
Till the day she left for the nursing home, she cooked on a 1875 cast iron stove, canned all her own vegetables, jams and food. She activly served her church Immanuel Lutheran Church on Meadow Street and gave everything she had to those who needed it, never thinking of herself. She like her whole family had a heart of gold and will be missed.
Adella was never married and had no children.
