Jesse Alfred Cates was born on March 28, 1880 in Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas,son of James and Eleanor Cates. He married Minnie Lee Stockard on June 26, 1901 Denton, Dallas County, Texas. They had five children during their marriage; Willie Dee Cates, Hettie Gertrude Cates, Lenora Cates, Vicci Charlotte Cates and Jesse Alfred Cates. After his wife Minnie passed away, Jesse Cates married Lois Pearl Stallings Hill. He died on December 16, 1951 in Little Elm, Denton County, Texas, at the age of 71 and was buried in Lewsiville, Texas.

Jessie A. Cates Funeral is Held

Little Elm, December 19, (5sp) - Last rites for Jessie Alfred Cates of Little Elm were held Monday at 1:30 in Little Elm Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Luck officiating, assisted by Rev. J.L. Rodes.

Cates died Sunday at his home in Little Elm. He was born March 28, 1880, in Grapevine. Burial was held in Little Elm Cemetery.

In 1900, Cates married Miss Minnie Stockard. She and two daughters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his second wife, two daughters, Mrs. Homer Green and Mrs. Monroe Allen of Denton; one son, J.A. Cates of Dallas; one step-daughter, Mrs. L.E. Smotherman of Little Elm, and four brothers, Homer of Anna, I.H and D.I., of Fort Worth and C.C. of Dickens.
