Just how the accident happened will likely never be known. It is only known that Allen was engaged in cutting threads on a large pipe. He was working in a room by himself, and a few minutes later was found by another workman, writhing on the floor in intense pain. He never became able to tell what occurred, but appearances indicated that he slipped and fell against the device, the handle of which struck him in the stomach. The operation at the hospital showed that the stomach had been ruptured.
Allen was born in Pulaski County and was thirty-four years of age last August. He grew to manhood here in Winamac and in 1909 was married to Miss Cora Linn of this city. Five children were born to them, four of whom, Florene, Fern, Earl and Berlin, ranging in age from three to twelve years, are left to the care of the bereaved widow. Three years ago the family moved to Crown Point, where Allen has held a responsible position with the electric company. He was competent and congenial and will be sorely missed by the little family and by other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Dille of this city, he leaves brothers John of Iowa and Harry of Winamac, and sisters Mrs. Elsie McCloskey of South Dakota and Mrs. Ocie Hastings of Idaville.
The remains were brought here Tuesday and taken to the home of Mrs. Dille's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Linn on South Market Street. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church yesterday forenoon, with services by Rev. S. C. Rogers. Burial was given in the Winamac cemetery. The obsequies were in charge of the Odd Fellows, of which order deceased was a member at Crown Point.
