Bertha was the daughter of William Dudley and Lena Esther Bailey Horn. She was the middle of five children. She married John Floyd Harrell on 25 Apr 1919 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. Bertha and John had one child, Esther Susie Harrell.

Bertha was a very loving and giving person. She was a Baptist and got great strength from her faith. Even though she was "just" a farmer's wife, she always acted like the southern lady that she was. She knew her genealogy all the way back to the Mayflower--none of it written down, just memorized!

One of her sayings that I remember is "Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe." There is something to be said for loving others but letting them "paddle their own canoe" without uncalled-for assistance.

She died of ovarian cancer, but she was looking forward to going to her home in heaven.
