ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial for Verna Belle Sonnier Istre, 76, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today 3 Feb 2006 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Bordelon officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.

Visiting hours were observed Thursday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home. Visitation will resume today at 8 a.m. until the time of sevice.
A resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Istre died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Iberia Medical Center.

Mrs. Istre enjoyed playing bouree and visiting the casinos. She loved spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Whitney Joseph Istre of New Iberia; two sons, Rodney Paul Istre and wife Pam of Delcambre and Sidney J. Istre of New Iberia; four daughters, Anna Benoit and husband Carl of Scott, Verna Arcemont and husband Andrew of New Iberia, Wanda Valente and husband George of Forsyth, Ga., and Judy Toucheck and husband Allen of New Iberia; two brothers, Jedeon Sonnier and wife Anna of Delcambre, and Ray Sonnier and wife Joy of New Iberia; a sister, Isabelle Lapointe and husband Ned of New Iberia; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Istre was preceded in death by her parents, Luc and Laurence Delahoussaye Sonnier; two sons, William Joseph and Mack Thomas Istre; a daughter, Mary Istre Landry; two brothers, Alton and Cutris Sonnier; a sister, Rosabell Duhon; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Destiny Price.


Pallbearers will be Scott Benoit, Andrew Arcemont, Eric Arcemont, Chad Landry, Allen Toucheck and Joshua Gary.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Postoe and Jordan Istre.
