They had two children. A daughter,Mary Louise Conan Doyle who was born in Portsmouth in 1889 & a son Arthur Alleyne Kingsley Conan Doyle who was born in 1892.
In 1893 Louise was diagnosed with tuberculosis and initially given only a few months to live. Arthur took her to Switzerland for the air but then homesick, they returned to England. Believing the air here was beneficial, they settled near Hindhead where Arthur built a new home for them called "Undershaw". After a long illness Louise died in 1906. Arthur married his second wife Jean a year later.
Both of Louise's children are buried next to her in this cemetery.
