Cyril E. Sagan, 77, of Volant, Plain Grove Township, formerly of Springdale, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 2004) in St. Mary Hospital, Rochester, Minn., of heart and lung complications.

He was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Springdale.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

Mr. Sagan was professor emeritus of chemistry at Slippery Rock University, where he taught for 22 years.

He was a member of the American Chemical Society.

Survivors include two sons, Cyril Edward Sagan of Raleigh, N.C. and Clement Sagan of Dearborn, Mich.; three daughters, Rosalind Kasunick of Mainz, Germany, Monica Sagan of Melbourne, Fla. and Agnes Howard of Georgetown, Mass.; seven grandchildren, a brother, Emil A. Sagan of South Carolina; and a sister, Martha Daly of Riddley Park.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Cyril Thomas and Bertha Kosa Sagan; two brothers, Bill and Edward Sagan; and three sisters, Betty Sagan, Susan Felock and Josephine Reed.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in SPRINGDALE at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Springdale, by the Rev. George Saladna. Burial will be private. Burial at Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township.
