Funeral services for Lewis J. Larson, pioneer Cameron township farmer, who died at 5:56 a.m. Tuesday [May 19, 1942] in a Minot hospital, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Douglas Lutheran church with Rev. C. M. Fosmark officiating. The Thompson-Larson funeral home has charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Fred Kramer, August Cordes, S. K. Engene, John Hoff, Hutson Bowen and Robert Cowan.
Mr. Larson had been a hospital patient since Sunday. Mr. Larson would have celebrated his 63rd birthday anniversary Wednesday. He was born May 20, 1879, in Moody County, S.D. He lived in South Dakota until his marriage in 1903 to Gertrude Bidne at Flandreau. They came soon afterward to homestead in Cameron township, Ward County. Mr. Larson for more than 20 years had operated a fine dairy farm, serving the residents of Douglas with milk products.
Mr. Larson was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Douglas and a trustee of the church at the time of his death. He served as chaplain of the I. O. O. F. lodge, clerk of the Modern Woodmen lodge and on the board of the Farmers elevator. He also was a member of the school board, on which he served for many years, and a member of the Ward county land use committee.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, three daughters and 16 grandchildren. The sons and daughters are: Glen and Gordon of Douglas and Lyle of Napa, California; Mrs. J. A. Hanson, Douglas; Mrs. A. J. Snowbeck, New Ulm, Minnesota, and Mrs. Martin Bowen, Everett, Washington. In addition, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. A. L. Kragness of Douglas and Mrs. Peter Doyle of Flandreau, South Dakota, and four brothers, Carl, of Brookings, South Dakota.; Henry, Jamestown; and Ben and Alfred, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
