Dorothy M. Carstens, 81 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska died at her home Saturday morning, January 28, 2006. She was born on April 15, 1924 in Beatrice, Nebraska and attended Beatrice High School. She was married to her life-long sweetheart, Harry Mitchell Carstens, on December 21, 1944 at Beatrice and had recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. She worked at Dempster Manufacturing during WW II making bomb casings. She was then employed at the Beatrice State Developmental Center for over 30 years where she made many wonderful friendships. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Beatrice and was active in CWF, Circle #1 and Sew-N-Sews. She was also a member of the Homestead Heritage Club. After her retirement in 1989, she became an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She learned to quilt and spent many happy years with the Sew-N-Sews making and donating baby quilts to the Child Savings Institute in Omaha, Nebraska.

Survivors include her husband, H. Mitchell Carstens of Beatrice, Nebraska. Two sons, Keith Carstens and his wife Patricia of Murray, Nebraska and Duane Carstens and his wife Kathy of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Two daughters, Judeen Carstens of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rogene Lineweber and her husband William of Beatrice, Nebraska. Ten grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. One sister, Barbara Delgado and her husband Tony of Lincoln, Nebraska. Two brothers, Donald Eckel of Lincoln, Nebraska and Larry Eckel and his wife Connie of Longmont, Colorado. One sister-in-law, Bernice Carstens of Beatrice, Nebraska. One brother-in-law, Kenneth Carstens and his wife Norma of San Bernadino, California. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Martha Larsen Eckel, an infant brother Merle Eckel and two infant great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at the First Christian Church of Beatrice, Nebraska with Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice, Nebraska. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the Fox Funeral Home in charge. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Tuesday in the church parlor. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice, Nebraska from 5:00 P.M. Sunday until 9:00 P.M. Monday and then at the church on Tuesday one hour preceding the services. The family will meet and greet friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
